I have no experience with brown bear hides but I do with black bear hides so it shouldn't be too much different. Besides, no one else has answered your post.

I wouldn't (and didn't) fuss with trying to transport a raw hide back to the lower 48. It might be a little more expensive to have the rug done in Anchorage but you save on shipping costs.

BTW, Larry Madosik of Alaska Wildlife Studiodid mine and did a very nice job.
