Thanks Sam!
Another tip
Bring in two small black tires, one with a rim or lid placed on top with a few logs or rocks to hold it there. Put some choice bait underneath. Then instead of pouring the grease on the ground (for us lazy guys who hate digging up gallons of contaminated soil), smear the grease on the tires. Position these in the sun so as to heat them up, it will bake off every time it gets hot.
You can play with the mixture you use on the tires, (beaver caster, grease, fish oils etc) We used to do something similar back in MN and at one time was able to pan acrossed a fairly open woods to count SEVENTEEN yes 17 bears in the view finder. We had a great area all to ourselves with absolutely NO pressure back then.
The grease on the ground works extremely well, bears go where other bears go, but the digging up ALL contaminated soil keeps me from choosing that method.
Another one is marshmellows. Place them in strategic locations, bears lovem, put a small "pile" (ie loosely scattered) here and there, to get the choice shot you want. This is mainly a bowhunters tatic but will work none the less with a rifle.
I still can't fathom the guys bring in garbage bags full of popcorn though....you must have more lenient wives then mine. Dont get me wrong she loves the popcorn and all but the amount of popping must go on for days ;)!
