LMAO! Ya think I haven't envisioned the same thing? I've practiced a bit like that and noooo it's not recommended to shoot the thing to the side!   I know how fast bears are and how unlikely it is I'll have time to swing to a frontline shot but I still feel better with the 12 gauge around. It's kinda a nervous thing sometimes drifting through the grassy creeks and being tucked into the cockpit, but I figure if a bear wants me he gonna have me 'cause I know I can't outrun 'em!The gun is held on with two pieces of duck tape right down the top of the kayak. If anyone knows of a better way to tote a twelve gauge while kayaking I'm all ears. I also know pepper spray is easier to haul and sling but I'm a firm believer a person should defend themselves with what they are most proficient with and all humbleness aside I ain't no slouch with a shotgun. As I mentioned, I've practiced shooting from the 'yak, ( as well as falling from the 'yak, and flipping from the 'yak). It's not easy but IFFFFF I have time I'm for sure gonna try and plug anything that wants me for lunch :)
Thanks for the feedback on behavior. I'll continue to float through Alaska and just try to play heads up hockey with the critters. - Ed
