find out where you are going first

Before you start asking broad questions you need to know where you are headed as conditions/terrain very greatly in alaska.  Within 2 hours of fairbanks can mean road system, or bush.  THere are two kinds of alaska road system and bush.  One thing before you get started off for up here is if you are planning on driving up, by your questions about your 4wheeler I am guessing you are, you need to know about transporting firearms through canada.  They do not allow pistols through and you have to pay a 50 canadain fee for other "allowed" firearms.
