Maptech
Posted by Michael Strahan on May 24 2005
Dave,

When I went shopping for this kind of software I spoke with folks who had used both Maptech and Topo!, and most folks favored Maptech.  I can't remember what was different about the two, but I ended up going with Maptech and it works great for me.  I'm running it on a Macintosh computer with OSX, through Virtual PC with Windows XP Pro as the operating system.  No problems whatsoever.  I don't print my own maps with it because I prefer to use regular full-sized USGS topo maps in the 1:63,360 scale for my hunts.  Still, it's useful for calculating gradient, profiling your trails, and a bunch of other things too  numerous to mention.

You can purchase Maptech directly off this site, if memory serves.

Hope this helps!

-Mike
