I use the Topo! software and like it. It is nice to draw routes and calc distances, etc. I have not done anything real fancy with it, but have printed GPS coords on the map and then checked them when in the field; great agreement between my GPS and the Topo! coords. I have not used any other software, so no comparison. BTW, I have a Mac.  j
