Leica LRF Scan
Posted by Ray on Feb 27 2005
All range finders have difficulties with non-reflective targets. A big rock, or a large animal are reflective enough. For smaller animals, the beam must be pointed exactly on target, otherwise it may not tell you the correct distance.  Some range finders don't show the display clearly enough when used in bright sunlight. Also, must range finders won't be accurate if pointed towards bright light. However, under normal conditions, most range finders work fine. Other things that reduce the scanning range are rain, snow, fog, etc., but that's normal even with our eyesight.

The Leica LRF Scan range finders (1200 and 800) have a red color display that can bee seen in bright sunlight, and so the Swarovsky unit. I have the LRF 1200 Scan, and so far I haven't found a problem with it. If you shop around, the most expensive of the two Leica units can be purchased for around $450.00 or so. The smaller unit is cheaper, but works just as well. I prefer the 1200, because of its 1,200-yard range.
