More tips...
Posted by Brian Richardson on Feb 25 2005
Some of these tips can be reinforced a tad:

#1  The hide is a superior trophy in my mind indeed, but not to be mystified w/ official trophy scoring margins founded on the skull size.

#2  Fall bear fat on the hog are already stretched – think in terms like a fat guy that now has dieted and wouldn’t mind a cosmetic tummy-tuck because his skin was stretched when he was fat.

#3  While adult fall bear can be fattened up – even despite less dense hair – They (the same bear) are going to be roughly the same looking size in the spring whereas having thick hair and probably somewhat less overall weight….  I’m going to throw this out there - that a hunter is prone to miscalculate short-range shot placement and shoot through hair in spring vs. underestimating longer ranges in the fall.

#4  In lots of general bear hunting - spring is an easier hunt than fall – but of course this depends on where you hunt.
