I haven't found one yet
Posted by Paul H on Jan 27 2005
Do to work and family constraints, I haven't hunted nearly as much as I would like to, and subsequently haven't taken any big game animals.

The problem with moose is many fold.  The population is small, the number of hunters is high, and most importantly, if you hiked far enough out to find one, packing all the meat out is physically impossible for all but a few.  We've hunted many of the lakes in the in Kenai National Wildlife refuge, and have seen few moose during hunting season, and last year, alot of hunters.  Still a good time out with the family, rainbow fishing is great, and their are spruce hens and waterfowl.

The species I would concentrate on are the black bears.  There is a pretty good population within driving distance of Anchorage, and not alot of hunting pressure.  You can also hunt them in the spring and fall.

The best deal I've seen would be flying out of Soldotna for Caribou, $1200 last time I looked, and they'll fly your limit of 5 bou in that cost.

Dipnetted salmon has accounted for our natural protein intake.
