[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] preserving the color Posted by nodak on Jan 26 2005 I use a clear coat plastic or polyurathane spray (non yellowing). Make sure you use a satin finish so you don't get a glossy shine. I give them a very light coating to seal the horns but not enough to give them a wet look. A light coating will absorb somewhat into the horns and leave a natural look to them. If you get it on a little to heavy just give it a little work over with steel wool when dry to dull it up. I have been using this for over 20 years and have not had any of the fade out. Also I use various wood stains to stain horns, when putting the stain on you want to let it dry for a couple minutes and then wipe it down realy well to remove all excess stain, then work the tip areas and any high spots, ridges, nobs and bumps to lighten them up for a more natural look. May also work these same areas over with steel wool to bring out the high lights and natural rub affects. Hope this helps.
