[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] hunting opportunities for first time hunter Posted by nickster on Jan 26 2005 I’ve lived in Alaska over 3 years now, catch my share of fish every summer, but have never hunted. For a variety of reasons, not the least of which is a baby daughter I don’t want sprouting into a “woman” at 11 years old due to all the hormones in beef, pig, etc., I’m considering a hunt next fall. I do have several friends who are hunters and native to Alaska, but I thought the wealth of knowledgeable people on this forum might have some valuable opinions. I’m hoping to get some feedback on closer/easier/cheaper opportunities out of Anchorage. (NOT ‘close’, ‘easy’, ‘cheap’, but relative to a $1,500 flyout 10-day hunt). What are some of the options out of Anchorage, say the shorter flyouts for any species with a decent chance at getting an animal? How about driving – anything within a day’s drive and some amount of hiking? Is there a better game you would suggest for any particular reason? I appreciate any info you hunters can share.
