I too saw the bears in October and took a few photos (posted at www.alaskanfishguides.com ; click on the photo galleries).  I have already heard reports that they are back (2 of them) in the area and doing fine.  Last I heard, they were at the community landfill, just being bears.  I suspect that they will be back to the Russian sometime in June when the first run of fish start showing up.
