First off, I want to say you guys have a great site going here.  I have just moved up to Soldotna from MN, got here in February and have been "lurking" around this site trying to glean as much info as possible.  My past fishing experience has been entirely fishing lakes in a boat in MN and Ontario (mainly for Northerns, Muskies, and Bluegills), so this river fishing stuff is new to me.  I think I am starting to get an understanding of the salmon species and techniques, but I have a more immediate problem.  I've got the itch to fish now!

What and where should I try fishing now?  Is most April and early May fishing for rainbows and dollies?  What is a typical rod/reel and tackle setup?  I am not a fly fisherman, so that is out.

Any suggestions you folks would have are appreciated, or if anyone around here wouldn't mind a new guy taggin' along once, that'd be allright too.  Thanks for any info, and keep up the great work on this site!
