Lamiglas + e-bay
Posted by Paul H on Mar 28 2006
The cheapest setup would be a one of the generic lamiglass 5'-6" 50-80# meatsticks that run around $70.  Pair that up with a Penn special senator 4/0 you can get off e-bay for around $40-50 and your set.  Just realize there are a ton of 4/0 specials on e-bay, and they often go higher than $50, but I'd only pay that on a NIB.  Just bid the last 10 seconds for a max of $50, and if you don't win, just watch the next auction.

Spool it with 50# dacron as backing at 150 yds of 50# powerpro and you'll have a great setup for about $150.  If you dont want to deel with e-bay, that setup with new real runs about $220-230 unless you can find a deel on those reals which occasionally go for $100 vs the generice $130 price.

Used halibut gear just doesn't seem to be found that often up here, and you don't want junk.  Buts put a good strain on your gear, and slack tides are short enough that you dont' want to be wasting your time fighting your tackle vs fishing with it.
