Pike

Ripface,
Where are you from in MN? My wife and I come from Ogilvie, but Alaska has been home since 1983 and the only way I'm leaving is if my dust blows away. I'm crazy about big Pike and fish them every chance I get. While they are great eating they grow so slow up here, most of my fishing is catch and release. My largest so far is a little over 48" and I released it. I keep looking for a new state record. As snowwolfe says, Minto flats has been a hot spot but it got hit pretty hard in the 90's. The new restrictions, since then, have helped to restore the fishery but there aren't many fish over 35" yet. These days my fishing is in clearwater streams entering the Yukon and they could be anywhere between Ft Yukon and Galena. I'm planning a trip into the Kiyuh flats and would really like to spend some time in the Innoko, but both trips will take some time. In my opinion the best Pike outfitter in the interior and maybe Alaska is right here in Fairbanks. His name is Bill O'Halloran and he runs North Country River Charters. Booking a trip with an experienced outfitter is a quick way to start learning the territory and might be the cheapest in the long run. Give me a call when you get up here and we'll lie to one another about hunting and fishing. 488-8601
