fishing in early march

I may have a long weekend coming up March 3 - 5 and am thinking about going fishing or hunting for ptarmigan. I've heard fishing for silvers and trout on the Kenai is pretty good in the winter. Does anyone know what it's like in early March? Is it worth a trip that way?
