On the contrary...

I'd say your very wise to realize what is truly important in life.  I was fortunate to be able to move up here 9 years ago and haven't regretted it for a second, just wish I could take a few years off from work to truly enjoy the state.

You might be suprised by the job market, but since you're in a good financial position, definately realize your dream.

I'm in the greater Anchorage area, but if I could up and move to my ideal hunting/fishing/living location in the state, it would be Kodiak.  The cost of living is pretty comparable with other areas on the road system, fishing and hunting opportunities with a good skiff are literally just around the corner, and you can hop on the trusty tusty with your car and make a once or twice a year trip to Anchorage for major purchases, ie a costco run.
