Chuit River Access Denied
Posted by bigsalmon on Feb 16 2006
FYI,
The infromation being shared regarding the Chuit River is not accurate or up to date. The Tyonek Corporation and the Tyonek Village Council are not allowing access to the Chiut River unless you are a client of their lodge. They are currently involved in a legal disagreement with the Chiut River Lodge regarding access. The Chuit River Lodge does not sit on the river and the only access to the river is across Native Land.
The BLM has to change the designation of the Chit River from Unnavigable to Navigable before access will be granted. This decision is still being reviewed by BLM.
The statement that ADF&G will stop violations and will step in to stop access violations imposed by the Tyonek Village is false. They have been notified in the past and have no authority in this matter. It is a BLM and BIA issue.
If you have further questions contact the BLM office in Anchorage or the Soldotna Alaska State Trooper Office.
