[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] fly rod Posted by BrownBear on Jan 31 2006 Leave out the chum, and it's pretty easy to recommend a 5 weight, maybe even a 4. The chums are much bigger, and a lot more powerful. Ideal for chums is probably an 8 +/-. If forced to compromise and carry one rod, you have to decide whether to lose fun on the smaller fish with a big rod, or limit your performance on the big fish with a smaller rod. I'd probably take a 7 if that's all I could carry, but my heart wouldn't be in it. A 5 and an 8 packed in the same tube would still be compact for travel and a whole lot more fun.
