[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Not exactly what you think Posted by live2fish on Jan 30 2006 I just wanted to put my .02 worth on this. I work for a municipal waste water facility. Our effluent has been running into a salmon stream for a lot of years. And they keep coming back just fine. We use UV lights as our final treatment, the water coming out is extremely clean and in no way could be considered polluted. We have extremely strigent standards this water must achieve or else the EPA and the DEC show up for a visit. Our last pond (in a series of 3) is used by a huge number of ducks for raising their young in the spring. I have yet to see any mutant ducks with a third eye or anything else flying around the ponds. Most wastewater operators are very conciences about what they do, losing your license is extremely serious, not to mention the fines and possible jail time if you mess up. Mixing zones are not as bad as you might think if the operators are qualified and the rules are followed...which is in the best interest of everybody involved.
