2nd the pot puller
Posted by spoiled one on Jan 21 2006
I agree that a pot puller is the most effective way of pulling the pots, especially if you are long lining all 5 together in 50+ fathoms.  If you are dead set on using the ring and bouy system, try attatching a 5 gallon bucket on a short section of rope to your ring that your bouy is clipped to.  This will create a lot more drag, allowing you to pull them at a slower, more constant speed.  Just remember that the tasty little crustaceans will swim out if you do not keep constant pressure on the line like 4whlr said.  Good luck!
