To clarify; pinks were abundant and easy.  The chums mostly ignored our offerings but if we were persistent we could antagonize them into striking.  The one and only King I hooked was incidental while trying to coax a rather large rainbow into striking and to be honest it escaped with my fly line.  It got into the backing faster than I could keep up with, went around a bend in the river and broke me off on a log.  My son did manage to release the one he hooked however.  The silvers (two of them) were still very bright and I suspect they were early arrivals.  The big surprise were the sockeye as they are not reputed to have much of a run in the river we were in. If I should be so fortunate as to duplicate (not likely) this situation again I will put a lot more effort into the rainbows.  BTW we released every fish we caught on both days, hauled out two large garbage bags full of other peoples trash....small contribution for the two magnificent days we had been afforded.
