You are absolutely correct. I have found spots that I can drive to, park, and walk 9 steps (and I counted them), and limit out on salmon and char with no one around me on a day without wind and rain.

Mind you, it's getting tougher, but it is still out there; and I write about it to bring others to it.

As I see it, the smart play is use Anchorage as the connector city to locations that have tiny road systems and good fishing. Our publisher of this directory recognizes that, and he has had me spend many hours in order to share those discoveries with you. You'll find many of those spots by simply pushing the AREAS button and then scrolling around. There are fine cost-efficent trips to be had by doing that kind of research.

But do not deny the outfitters. Sometimes you can combine the buying power of several persons to go it remote and still be at par with the cost of the road.

It all takes homework.
And it all pays off...
