Self guided fishing advice needed
Posted by CharlieM on Jan 10 2006
Good Morning,
My wife and I will be making a trip to your great state the last week of July and first week of August. We will be flying into Anchorage and renting an RV. We want to fish as many places as possible while we are there. Our budget will not permit hiring guides so we are looking for as much advice as possible about places we can fish on our own. We will be hiring a guide in Homer to fish for halibut but that is all. We are interesed in salmon and trout but don't care what the species is. We will not be keeping any fish so we are not concerned if it is not the most desirable species. My reseaarch has pointed towards Hope for pinks but past that one location I have found very little. We will be spending most of our time in the Kenai area but I am not opposed to going a short way north of Anchorage if it is worth the time. Since we will be going all the way to Homer I have been concentrating mostly in the Kenai region. I know the most popular fish in this are are the red's but I must admit I can't get too excited about snagging fish. I certainly am not passing judgement on this practice. Just not my thing.

If anyone would take the time to reply and offer any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
