trouble

It's no secret that bears and humans converge upon rivers during salmon runs. It's been a fact of life for a very long time. What I see changing is the attitude of people, who now compete for space and are more arrogant in the defense of that space. Couple that with the possession of guns, and those people are willing to stand their ground in the presence of bears. I watched a tourist level a .380 pistol at an adult brown bear to defend three red salmon, while sharing the general area with about 100 other fishermen, including me. Gun purchases don't require an intelligence test. Too bad.

Ignorant people with guns scare me much more than the bears do.
