Yet-another first timer to Alaska
Posted by Mich.Man on Jan 02 2006
Ok, everyone is probably pretty tired of giving thier thoughts to these firt time adventures to Alaska. But, yet I too have a few questions. I have stream fished all of the Great Lake systems all my life for Browns and Bows, and know the value of local advice paid (guides)and free. I planned to fish the Kenai river system, and tributaries the week of Aug.18 for Bows, d.vardens, and silvers and needs some thoughts on my plan for stream fishing by foot power.
I am intersted in targeting the upper Kenai from Skilak road below Jim's landing. I also planned on fishing Quartz and Ptarmigan creeks.

Also, if anyone is planning a trip to Great Lake systems. I would be happy to share advice on plenty of places to catch 20-30 steelhead a day. Yes, combat fishing is alive and well in the Great lakes during the Fall Salmon run. From the photos I have seen of Alaska's version of combat fishing it appears you could fit another five guys in between. Must be because you have a bigger state you fish them a little further apart.
