I've long given up on expecting a wonder fabric to keep me dry, and instead try and stay warm while wet.  If I have a layer on that keeps the rain out, then I build up with sweat on the inside because it won't breath enough, and if I have something that breaths well enough, it won't keep the rain out.

I like to layer with synthetics, ie polypro, micro fleece and fleece, and have a layer of raingear for when it really rains.
