huh what?
who told you all that?
First off, PWS island silvers like the the nellie martin run into the rivers earlier (i.e., late august, I've been there in similar weather to this year) than the mainland. Don't quote me since haven't been there, but coghill may run later. who told you "too late"?
Second, why the heck fly to montague island from anywhere else but cordova? Anchorage is way too expensive, even seward is a ways to haul gear to. You'd be better off flying commercial to Cordova, then taking the plane service called "fishing and flying" (at the airport), or Cordova Air Service (in town). The beach landings are tide dependent for nellie martin, depends on a daytime minimum tide generally below +2.5 (ask your pilot). And, its about a mile hike from the landing spot to the cabin. Its a neat cabin with stupendous fishing and perfect flyfishing conditions (other methods work too). The river had so many fish when I went two years ago, I couldn't see the bottom in many places. On the tributary, patton creek, I sure as heck couldn't see the bottom. There was more fish than water. I'm almost not kidding. strip your fly fast or its snagarama.
Coghill is not tide dependent, of course, and the cabin I believe is on the lake outlet.
Third, I'd get a direct fishing report before committing to either.
