Silvers are hot, hot, hot right now in Valdez with ready available limits, but halibut, lingcod, snappers and some sharks are pretty good too. Waters have been fairly calm but fog has been heavy this summer. Valdez, like Cordova is a really nice town and should be slowing down with all the tourist trade by then. I spent 10 days there in mid October several years ago, now live in Alaska as a result and travel just abit to go there a few times of year for the fishing and the great people. It's an easy drive to Anchorage from there and the spectacular mountain vistas can't be beat. Try both ocean going rods and reels and fly fishing equipment. What a gas to catch silvers on a fly rod. Yes, pack the wool socks, long underwear and down jackets. It's been a cool summer and we like to froze to death for a couple of days camping there just last week. Expect some rain, wind and coolish mornings. I heartily recommend renting a skiff from Fish Central to get out on the water. Not sure that silvers will still be there in the numbers they are now, but they are huge this year and good fun. Had to buy another freezer just for them, ha ha. Good fishing!
