avoiding snags
Posted by BrownBear on Aug 22 2005
It's easy.  I change out the trebles on lures for "weedless" single hooks.  I tie my own flies, so when I know the fish are going to be thick I simply tie in a monofilament "weedless" loop before tying the fly.

A side benefit to the suggestion of polaroid glasses is being able to locate the edge or front of schools.  Just as with red fish or "spots" there in the Gulf of Mexico, the most active and aggressive fish are not going to be in the middle or back end of a school, but you will find them at the front or side.  Use your polaroids to help you find and fish the same parts of a salmon school, and your snags will go way down while your strikes go up.
