The quickest and easiest way I have found is to simply slip a small bead on after sliding on the cone. Want more weight? Use metal. Otherwise use plastic. The extra bead sinches it up real tight, plus makes it easier to form the head without a lots of extra winding. Depending upon the material you are tying with, you usually can't even see the extra bead.
