Cones
Posted by bstacy1974 on Jul 28 2005
Cones or beads both have a tendency to not be securely fastened to the hook shank.  Does it really matter?  Probably not. But there are a couple of extra steps you can take to secure the cones.  The first one is to lay down a "bed" of thread to make up the difference in diameter between the ID of the cone and the OD of the hook shank.  For extra strength, put a drop of crazy glue or head cement on the bed to take up any gaps.
The other method is to use lead wire.  Wrap a small diameter lead wire around the hook shank, "screw" the cone onto the wire, and try to keep everything as close the eye of the hook as possible.  Again use glue or head cement to fill any remaining gaps.
