So do Sockeye really "bite"?

I was reading another thread that made it sound like Sockeye (which I will be fishing in Hugh Smith Lake region first week August) are not aggressive...sounds like they hardly bite. How do you fish for them then? What do I do with my brightly colored flies? Tumble them past like a nymph? Strip?
