Fishing the Kenai
Posted by Alaskan graceman on Jun 28 2005
Both of you should be sure to learn how to fish for sockeye especially on the lower Kenai near Soldotna.  There should be a good number of reds coming in during that time and they are just a hoot to catch.  Make sure to bring good tackle.  They will break your stuff!  You don't see 'em jumping up waterfalls because they are wimpy.  I've seen 'em break my rod going upstream.  It's great fun you won't want to miss.  There is definitely a technique you will have to learn to catch those monsters.  It's called flipping and there is probably a post out there that will describe how to do it.  Like most other fishing, most of us have our own "secret" way to do it.

Good luck,

Mike
