Denali Grayling Tackle
Posted by alaskanfishguides on Jun 27 2005
Another option, one that has produced the best for me on the Denali is simply holding a fly in the current over the holes (the use of polarized glasses allows you to see the fish holding).  The grayling's natural food (wich you are sure to discover) is mosquitos.  Simulating their natural food source will produce much action.  You don't have to be a fly fisher, or even have a fly rod for that matter, simply tie a small dry pattern at the end of your light wieght spinner (without swivel) and hold it so that it makes a "V" pattern on the surface, then get ready for fun.  I agree with Buck also on the spinners, but have found that they tend to spook the grayling out of the hole.  I also agree with him about the barbs.  You will catch and release way more than your limit and ability to eat, so it is great to give the little guys a chance at becomming big guys.

One of my favorite places is Clearwater creek and (believe it or not) the small tributary that feeds into Clearwater; Osar creek.

Good luck, and don't feed the bugs too much...
