Try the Salt
Posted by Wayneak on Apr 23 2005
Your best bet will be in the salt water out of Deep Creek.  A combo trip for kings and halibut is the way to go.  Mid-May is pretty early for any of the Kenai Peninsula Rivers.  In fact, the earliest opening is on the Anchor River and it's on the weekend that you'll be leaving Alaska.  You could try the Kasilof on the way to or from Deep Creek.  I don't think the Kenai is worth the gamble of the cost of a guide in mid-May. Your best bet headed North toward Talkeetna will be the Little SU, but still pretty early.  Another possibility, but also iffy, would be a flight or boat charter to Alexander Creek. Head South, young man!  Hope this helps.
