Kenai Guides End of July first of August
Posted by alaskanfishguides on Apr 22 2005
Propilot,

Your time period for the red salmon on the Kenai is past the peak and working towards the end... there will still be reds in the river, but not like the week before.  I must say, however that reds in current fight very strong and can take out much line depending on where you are fishing.  This may be a bit much for a 6 year old as well....  I have taken my son fishing since he was 6.  He did great on trout and grayling, but for salmon, we tied the rod to the boat just in case it was too much for him.  He has done quite well on silvers and eventually reds (a few years later).

On the other hand, your timing is just about right for the beginning of Silver fishing.  This may be more conducive for the youngster.  To fish for silvers, we anchor the boat and soak eggs (or use lures).  For this, it would be very easy for the guide or yourself to assist your son catch the fish.

If you hire a guide, typically you would only have to pay for the seats that you occupy.

The fishing in Seward doesn't really matter within this window of time.  The halibut fishing will be great anytime and the silvers will be starting to run as you get closer to August.

For halibut charters out of Seward, I recommend contacting Ninilchik Charters.  This is a 43' boat with a nice cabin to get out of the weather.  I know the owner and captain very well. http://www.ninilchik.com .

If there is anything that I can do for you, or any other question that I can help with, send me an email at efrench@acsalaska.net or call 866-945-3474... or you can visit my site for more information http://www.alaskanfishguides.com

Good luck.
