anchor method
Posted by NorthRick on Mar 31 2005
We've tried pulling shrimp pots using the steel loop/bouying method normally used for pulling anchors.  I rigged a roughly cone shaped piece on the line right near the pot to catch the steel loop and prevent the pot from sinking again.  This worked about 1 in 4 tries.

I might have improved the design, however, we abandoned the technique for other reasons.  1st, our shrimp pots didn't handle the treatment too well.  I think the pot skips across the bottom initially before starting to rise.  Some where pretty beat up when we got them up.  2nd, the shrimp didn't seem to fair too well on the ride up.  A fair percentage were dead on arrival.

We've had to put money into other areas of the boat and still don't have a mechanized puller.  We've gotten by by inviting friends and getting them all excited about fresh shrimp.  Can usually get a few sets in before their excitement fades.
