In addition to the 2-3 hour drive, there can be road construction delays during the summer.  You'll have a much more enjoyable charter if you get a good night sleep vs getting up at 4 am for a long drive down.  It is an incredibly beautiful drive, and having time to pull off as you want to take pictures and soak up the views will be much better than rushing down and worrying you'll miss the boat.

You should have a good time in the Copper River area, it doesn't get nearly the fishing pressure of other areas, so is more wild and rustic, a good thing IMHO.  Copper River fish are very good eating, though I've yet to compare them side to side to say Kenai River fish.
