Change in Whittier Regs
Posted by B_M on Feb 22 2005
Doug and bushwaker are right in saying that snagging is permitted in saltwater.  There are, however, some caveats to that.  Snagging used to be permitted in the Whittier harbor, but that came to an end this year.  They claimed that they wanted to do away with the craziness associated with crowds of people snagging kings in the harbor.  I've snagged my fair share of kings in the Whittier harbor and have never seen more than 4 people trying at once, but that's the way it goes, I guess.  I think you can still snag kings outside of the harbor in Whittier, but I don't think you'd have much luck at that.  The Whittier run of kings is small and they typically just circle the harbor, especially around the end boat launch.  Whittier is better for snagging silvers in late fall.

As for Seward, snagging of kings is permitted off of the beach.  I'm not sure about the harbor, though.

What Bill said about mouth-caught fish is true in freshwater, but not salt.
