I guess level wind would be ok for shallow depths but we fish 300-600 feet. Your thumb is a working mans level wind. We have no objection having to "work" for our fish.  There are inevitable soundings when the fish sees the bottom of the boat and off they go again. Birdnests are just part of the game.  It gives one a chance to exercise ones vocabulary. <:{{{~~<
