no conflict of data here
Posted by homerdave on Jan 31 2005
of course, when it comes to the ADN article, data is either ignored, not looked for , or just left out.  if the article is the one i recall, they were pretty much just talking about salmon, especially wild vs. farmed. farmed fish is not good for you, artificially colored  and nowhere near the complex omega-3 fatty acids that are what are so good for you in wild salmon.
there is no question that  yelloweye rockfish ( and tiger rockfish and most likely shortraker, all the really long-lived ones) salmon sharks, large lingcod and many large halibut have levels of methyl mercury in their flesh that should DEFINATELY not be consumed by children and pregnant women, or by women that intend to get pregnant.
why our DEC, which did the testing, is choosing not to release this rough data is a good question.  of course, there was a time when canneries would not buy huge halibut because of the mercury, and now they command top prices. hmmm....?
so, "caveat emptor" on one hand, but get  all the info you can before you shop.
