Used 80# power pro last year
Posted by Paul H on Jan 31 2005
I put a backer of 80# dacron on my 4/0 senator, then 150yds of power pro on top.  It worked well, but when the tide was really ripping, I had trouble staying on bottom in 150 ft of water with a 5# sinker.  But asside from that, I could get down with a 16 oz leadhead even with the tide running, and a 6 oz diamond jig worked really well around slack tide, hit bottom, one or two bounces before a hook up, and I wore myself out with all the fish I hooked.

I'd even consider dropping to 50# so long as you aren't worried about crossing lines with other rods on the boat.  If you use 50#, beware that it'll take alot of line to fill a spool if you don't use a backer.  Then again, if you fray the first 50yds, no big deal to strip it off and have plenty left on the spool.

Do some research on knotting spectra lines, because you can loose alot of strength with the wrong knot, and get full strength with the right knot.
