Spectra Line for Halibut
Posted by John S on Jan 29 2005
Hello all,

I need some advice.  It's been 3 years and I've decided this is my winter to replace my line.

My problem is all the different "spectra" type lines out there.  I'm going to be buying a large spool, so I want to make sure it's the best line out there.  We do a lot of fishing in Kachemak bay and lower Cook Inlet with the 25 ft tides and therefore, sometimes, 5 lb leads.  So...I want the smallest diameter line out there to keep the lead size down.  Previously I just took my reels to the sporting goods store and took whatever they put on.  I now have different # line in different diameters on some of my reels which makes problems when fishing all four rods at the same time.  (Different line resistance= tangles.)  I have some 100 and some 120 lb line.  I'm considering 80# line because of the lower line resistance.  Anybody have any good input on advantages and disadvantages of going to this weaker line than I use now?  Cabelas lists at least 5 different "spectra" style lines.

Appreciate any input or ideas!!!

Thanks
