I would diffinitly look for dates in July for the simple reason of BAIT, BAIT, BAIT...  I have went out 3 times with Sports Den and the guides name was AL.  Although everyone on the boat didn't sign their tag, I have to say that we always left with fish.  Out of 4 fishing on the boat we in a half day of fishing got two.  

As far color- that is a shot in the dark on the Kenai.  Fish tend to stick around the river and can get red, more often than not I notice less silver being netted- especially bigger fish.
