GPS and Nautical Software for Mac
Posted by reeldeal on Apr 25 2006
Just bought a boat, and the GPS/Plotter/Sounder is an older Furuno with a pretty small display.  I was thinking about running my Mac (G4 Powerbook) laptop with some software to turn it into a Plotter with a bigger display, and more computational power.  I would then use the Furuno strictly as a Sounder.  I found a couple of different Mac compatible software packages online.  They are GPSy Pro, and GPSnavX.  The GPSnavX looks like it might be the better of the two, and assuming I can't somehow plug it into the current GPS receiver I am running for my Furuno, it looks like it would cost about $300 to get everything I will need to make it work.  Was wondering if anyone else has any experience with these software packages?
