valdez & rivers
Posted by cory100 on Mar 31 2006
I was faced with the exact same predicament, as are most people.  I have a 18 foot jetcraft with a slight v.  Run a 90/65 jet on it.  No it will not go in 6 inches of water, but it will handle anything over a foot or so on step.  I can also feel fairly comfortable in Valdez if the weather is o.k.  It does have 30 inch sides.  Also helpful to have a kicker in valdez, I got caught at shoup last year and the weather changed quickly,  the jet was not going to work as all you would do was launch over the waves.  I peronally would not take a true flat bottom out past Mineral creek and would be sure there are other boats around in case of problems.  When it comes to boats everything is about trade offs.  Just decide what is most important to you and your family and what you will get the most use out of.
