Floating the Chatanika
Posted by sarko on Mar 25 2006
I have a friend looking to do an easy float trip for his honeymoon.  It will be a group float, so they want something easy as there will be people in the group without much experience.  He had initially planned on Birch Creek, but is concerned, and I think rightly so, that the water levels will be too low.  He is looking to do this the first week in July.  One option I recommended he look at is to put in on the Chatanika at the Steese Hghwy bridge and take out at the intersection of the Murphy Dome trail.  Does anyone have any information on this section of the river that would be useful?  I'm not sure how interesting that country is or how long that float would take.  Any help would be great.  I have also recommended he consider the Yukon from Eagle to Circle.  Any thoughts there would be great as well.

Thanks
