It is a different world
Posted by Daveinthebush on Feb 26 2006
Linda:  It is a different world up here than the other places you mentioned. We loose boats with knowledgeable crews every year, last one was last week, a 56 footer.

The Zodiak will off you the safest type of boating but unless you have been out with someone on Alaskan waters (which ones?) I would not suggest traveling very far from any town.

You should have up here at a mininum: A VHF radio, depth finder, anchor, life jackets, extra provisions, extra prop, repair kit, charts, compass (GPS is bettter), and othe gear.

Sorry to sound so unassuring, but safety is first.
