On a calm day almost any boat will make the trip. I have seen some flat bottom jon boats a long way from port. However it can go from calm to stormy in a half hour. I would not want to be out in any small boat when the wind comes up. The trip will cross about 25 miles of open water with huge tidal flows. It is not like crossing a lake.
Good luck,
Patrick
